Heavy civil site work for data centers, hyperscale projects, and power-intensive industrial builds across St. Lawrence County. (315) 400-2654.
St. Lawrence County, with frontage on both the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack foothills, is home to NYPA's 800+ MW Robert Moses-Saint Lawrence hydroelectric plant. That generation capacity, combined with the existing Alcoa industrial corridor at Massena and the broad availability of large flat parcels, makes the county one of North America's most credible data center candidate regions for raw power-intensive operators.
Soils across St. Lawrence County are dominated by Adjidaumo and Kingsbury silty clays on the St. Lawrence lake plain, with Grenville, Hogansburg, and Worth loams on the better-drained till uplands and river terraces. The lake plain has high seasonal water tables, slow-percolating clay subgrades, and frost depths that drive deep foundation design. Bedrock is generally deep across the lake plain and shallower on the upland shoulders. Site work has to plan for short construction seasons, lake-effect snow loads, and coordination with the St. Lawrence Seaway and the New York Power Authority for any parcels along the river corridor.
Backwell self-performs the full heavy civil scope of a data center build: mass excavation, structural fill, SWPPP and stormwater construction, substation pad work, foundation pad preparation, ductbank, utility trenching, fiber routes, cooling water infrastructure, heavy haul access, and contractor laydown yards. We own the fleet, run our own crews, and bid the market against larger regional GCs without losing on price or schedule.
