Septic Engineer in Macedon, NY
Macedon's sewer districts cover the developed corridors. The farm roads and new splits outside them need septic. We run the tests, coordinate the PE stamped design and do the install.

Septic design for the Town of Macedon outside its sewer districts.
Parts of the town are in sewer districts, including Gananda Sewer District No. 1 in the town code. Lots outside sewer service use onsite septic systems.
Honeoye and Palmyra soils are well drained and often support a conventional trench field, if the perc rate is not faster than one minute per inch.
Appendix 75-A caps gravity lines at 60 feet. A dosing unit is required once total trench length passes 500 feet, and alternating units past 1,000 feet. The code recommends dosing or pressure on all systems.
20 feet under Appendix 75-A Table 2. The septic tank needs 10 feet.

It is the only way to know which system the lot supports. A perc test and deep hole before closing tells you if the field is a trench, a raised bed or a mound.

Macedon in two sentences
Macedon's town code includes the Gananda Sewer District No. 1, with its own article on when a private wastewater system is allowed. A lot without sewer frontage in Macedon needs an onsite system designed to 10 NYCRR Appendix 75-A, and the design starts with perc tests and a deep hole.
Designs are prepared and stamped by a New York licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Backwell coordinates the design, the town submittal, and the install.
Macedon soils
Macedon is the western end of the Wayne County drumlin field, east of Rochester. Drumlins carry Honeoye silt loam, very deep and well drained, and Lima silt loam, moderately well drained. Outwash benches along the canal are Palmyra gravelly loam, well to somewhat excessively drained. Low ground along the canal and Mud Creek is Canandaigua silty clay loam and Wayland silt loam, poorly to very poorly drained.
On a Honeoye drumlin or a Palmyra bench, a conventional trench field is common, provided the perc stays slower than one minute per inch. On Lima ground, a perched spring water table can cut the usable depth to two to four feet, which is the range Appendix 75-A sets for shallow absorption trenches. The canal and creek flats lean toward a raised system or a mound where the high water is at least a foot down, and toward a different spot on the lot where it is not.
Line length, dosing and distribution
On bigger Macedon lots with long fields, distribution matters. Appendix 75-A caps gravity distribution lines at 60 feet each. With pressure distribution or dosing, lines can reach 100 feet. Once total trench length passes 500 feet a dosing unit is required, and past 1,000 feet alternating units. The code recommends dosing or pressure distribution on all systems because it spreads effluent better and helps the field last.
How it works in Macedon
- Address and plan. Estimate in 1 hour.
- Sewer district check. Inside a district, the district rules control when a private system is allowed.
- Perc tests and deep hole. At least two perc tests and a six foot hole.
- PE stamped plan. System type, tank, distribution and reserve area.
- Town permit. Through the Town of Macedon building and code office.
- Install and inspection. Built to the stamped plan and Appendix 75-A.
What gets checked
- Usable soil depth over seasonal high water, bedrock and tight soil.
- Field 100 feet from wells, the canal and creeks; tank 50 feet; field 20 feet from the house.
- A 50 percent reserve area wherever the lot allows.
- Water softener backwash kept out unless no separate discharge 250 feet from wells and watercourses is possible.
Macedon problems and fixes
New house on a farm split
Test before the lot lines are final, so the field and reserve land on the best soil and stay 10 feet from the new lines.
Long field on a gravity system
Lines over 60 feet need dosing or pressure distribution. A pump chamber and pressure manifold handle it.
Wet spring yard over the field
Check for roof or footing drains tied in, and for surface water running onto the field. 75-A requires both kept out.
